The Duchenne Dash is Duchenne UK’s annual signature cycling event. It all started 11 years ago when patron, Krishnan Guru-Murthy, along with a small team of committed enthusiasts cycled 300km from London to Paris in 24 hours – the Dash was born!
Over the past 11 years, the Dash has grown into the charity's biggest and most challenging fundraising event. Amazing Dashers, have raised over £7m which has funded research that's changing the way that Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD) is treated.
DMD is a devasting and severe genetic muscle wasting disease. It causes all the muscles in the body to irreversibly weaken and deteriorate. There is currently no cure for DMD, but there is hope. Duchenne UK is changing the landscape of how DMD is treated and funds raised by the Dash is helping to advance research into new treatments and ensure the best quality of life for everyone living with Duchenne muscular dystrophy.
More information about Duchenne UK can be found on the charity's website.
Pearson is an integral part of the Duchenne Dash and has been involved in every single Dash to date. That’s 12 this year! It’s hard to imagine the event without Will Pearson and his endless support, enthusiasm and passion for cycling and Duchenne UK. Will also manages our incredible bunch of Ride Captains, a group of fabulous volunteers who love cycling and lead our cyclists safely from London to Paris. Will also leads our skills sessions, which help Dashers old and new to get accustomed to their kit, find their cycling legs and a love for cycling ahead of the event.
Duchenne UK has one clear aim - to end Duchenne: a severe muscle-wasting disease diagnosed in childhood.
As the leading Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD) charity in the UK, they're going further to find effective treatments for DMD to end its devastating impact. They're doing it faster, too, by accelerating access to these treatments and therapies for this generation of patients.
And Duchenne UK are here to support every family affected and ensure that they receive the best possible care.
